Clara (39) made it: She got away from the provincial backwaters in East Germany and paved her way into the intellectual elite of Berlin, where she is doing her PhD in philosophy. She is living her daily live in a shared flat in Kreuzberg and is the mother of 15-year-old Emma who lives at her father’s place in the rich outskirts of Berlin. She starts an affair with her student Max (27) and has a special relationship with her doctoral supervisor Margot (59). But when Margot starts flirting with suicide and Clara, back home in the northeast of Germany, realizes how alienated she feels within her own family, her life concept is being radically questioned.
How high is the price for a self-determined life?
